With a firm grasp of the Eastern Conference, the Montreal Canadiens are looking poised to make a legitimate run at the Playoff’s this season. The Canadiens are sitting atop the Eastern Conference with 78 points and a 37-15-4 record. The team is on an impressive run this season and showed the Detroit Red Wings exactly why they are one of the teams to beat in the NHL last night, as they dismantled the Wings 2-0. Carey Price was given the games first star honours as the goaltender was flawless on the night, saving 25 shots on 25 attempts. Carey Price has been a major reason the Canadiens have played so well. Price boasts a 32-11-2 record between the pipes this season for the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs goaltender has 5 shut-outs, a 1.93 goals against average and a .935 save percentage. If Price can continue to play the way he has, the Canadiens will be in fine form to make a run at the Stanley Cup finals.
Although Price has been a major contributor to the Habs success this season, he’s gotten help from the rest of his team as well. The Canadiens have seven players with 30 or more points this season including two defence-men. The majority of their production though have come from the big three, Subban, Plekanec and Pacioretty. The three men all have 40 or more points with 20 or more assists. Unlike some teams, the Canadiens don’t rely on any single player and thrive in a team environment. The Canadiens do a good job of distributing the puck and involving the team. The Canadiens team play and solid goal-tending will be difficult for any team to stop. The Canadiens are in position to be a force to be reckoned with through-out the remainder of the season and going into the Playoffs.
